“Echoes of Evanston: The Soul of Community Hospital” continues our multi-part creative collaboration exploring the often overlooked history of the Evanston Sanitarium, later known as Community Hospital which served the Black community on Chicago's North Shore from 1914 to 1980.

Lynne Boone Greene recounts her experiences growing up in Evanston, IL highlighting the significant role that Community Hospital played in her life and the community. She reminisces about the hospital's history, the dedicated doctors like Dr. Elizabeth Hill, Dr. Warren Spencer, and Dr. Florence Winfield-Frye, and her personal journey as a candy-stripper and lab technician in high school. Lynn details the close-knit bonds the hospital created for her family and Evanston's Black community.
